FormAdorn celebrates the synergy that results when media collides. Baltimore Clayworks and the Baltimore Jewelry Center have partnered to showcase the work of ceramicists, metalsmiths, and jewelers who create wearables or vessels utilizing an intersection of clay and metal. The work is a cross-pollination of techniques and methods and it highlights where the respective contemporary clay and jewelry fields converge. The exhibition honors traditional ceramic and metals techniques with a non-traditional twist, broadening the dialogue across both fields. Work was viewed concurrently at Baltimore Clayworks and the Baltimore Jewelry Center.
About the jurors:
Mary K. Cloonan is the Exhibitions Director at Baltimore Clayworks. She was born and raised in Western New York State, receiving a BS in education from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. She then went East to earn her MFA in ceramics from Syracuse University. She has since headed South to become a resident artist and teacher at Baltimore Clayworks in Maryland and is also the ceramics professor at Towson University. National and international art journals have published articles she has written, as well as those written about her own work. In addition to giving workshops to various art centers around the country, she has participated in an artist residency in Taiwan at Tainan University for the Arts. Her work has been exhibited around the country and is in many private collections. Most artists have a touchstone of artistic epiphany, she blames that salty Play-Doh.
April Wood is the Exhibitions Director at the Baltimore Jewelry Center. She is a metalsmith, sculptor, and jeweler. She received her BFA in Studio Art, concentrating in Metals/Jewelry from Texas State University – San Marcos and her MFA from Towson University. She is a co-founder of the Baltimore Jewelry Center, a metals + jewelry makerspace in Baltimore city, where she currently teaches. She has taught at the Maryland Institute College of Art, the Corcoran College of Art and Design, Penland School of Crafts, Idyllwild Arts Academy, and Towson University. Her work has been featured in Metalsmith, Surface Design Journal, and Sculpture. She exhibits her work nationally and internationally, including a solo exhibition at the Austin Museum of Art in 2012 and SIERAAD International Art Jewelry Fair in Amsterdam in 2013.
