Kids + Teens Programming
The mission of the Baltimore Jewelry Center is to engage the greater Baltimore community with the practice of metalsmithing and art jewelry. With our kids and teens programs, we create an environment for young artists to explore a new form of making. Students will learn about new materials and gain a variety of skills as they work with our instructors to create their own handmade objects or wearable works.

Youthworks
We bring hands-on professional development to youth in Baltimore City through YouthWorks. Through the Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Employment Development, Youth Services Division, we provide a 5-week summer job opportunity to a small number of young people in Baltimore City between the ages of 14 to 21. With us, these young people learn hand-skills in jewelry making and designing with traditional and alternative materials, build their own line of work, develop marketing skills and participate in an art market in Baltimore City where they sell their own work.
See below works made by our YouthWorks teens, as well as our teens at work.
Bloomberg Arts Internship
We are proud to participate in the Bloomberg Arts Internship in Baltimore through Arts For Learning. At the BJC, we participate in both the Summer program and Year-Round program, in which seniors in Baltimore City Public Schools work with us in the studio. Young artists who are paired with us receive a paycheck from BAI as they work to assist us in the studio, maintain tools, work on marketing and social media, leading their own workshops for fellow youth, create their own lines of jewelry, and lend a helping hand in various programs. Through Arts For Learning, BAI interns also gain professional development and college preparations while building skills and developing artistic connections + community.

School Partnerships
We have had the opportunity to partner with a number of schools in Baltimore to provide their students with meaningful experiences through classes and internships. With us, students have access to a variety of experiences including but not limited to: learning the foundations of jewelry making, exploring additional techniques that interest them, creating their own bodies of work, installing and displaying their work, and supporting the studio.
