Allison Gulick is an arts administrator based in Baltimore, MD. She has an MFA in Curatorial Practice from MICA and a BA in Art History from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. As a long time BJC community member, taking classes off and on since 2013, she’s excited to be participating in her second holiday sale. In addition to loving jewelry Allison is a big fan of reading, period dramas, traveling, wine tasting, and cats!

I’m presenting three distinct bodies of work for the 2024 holiday sale. One line explores the twelve constellations of the zodiac; simple shapes and basic metalsmithing techniques like drilling and hammering are used to create these earrings. The pieces are understated enough for everyday wear, while the different zodiac constellations combined with several metals and finishes allow the wearer to make a customized selection that is reflective of their personal taste.

This second series of earrings started out as a riff on best friend jewelry. The different colors of loose wool mixing together symbolize the way that friends carry a smart part of each other with them even when they are separated. The production run of this work is limited, dictated by the found materials and the desire to not create additional waste.

The third series is a lighthearted exploration of color through the process of powder coating. I’ve created three sizes of simple circle studs with a variety of color combinations meant to liven up any outfit. Colors in the series vary widely from solid neutrals like pearlescent white and chrome black to vibrant mixed complimentary colors like neon orange, bright teal, and fuschia purple.
