Ferrous to Fine: Steel for Jewelers

This course focuses on the use of steel, typically considered a non-precious metal, in combination with precious metals for the fabrication of jewelry. Students learn to solder steel wire and sheet with gold and silver solder for construction as well as surface embellishment. Linear structures and armatures will be created through small scale wire welding. Chasing and texturing on steel, small scale forging, and color methods will also be explored. Prerequisite: Intro to Metals + Jewelry or equivalent experience.
