Brooch the Subject

Lauren Markley | Saturday & Sunday | 9:30am - 4:00pm | October 14 & 15
This workshop will explore a variety of pin mechanisms, including the fibula, single and double pin stems, cold connected mechanisms, and approaches to jewelry made of alternative materials, such as wood. The workshop will focus mainly on technical aspects but will also cover historical uses and meaning of brooches and how they communicate information about the wearer and maker. The workshop will cover incorporating imagery into jewelry through techniques such as acid etching, roll-printing, and possibly water slide decals. Students are welcome to bring any objects or materials they would like to incorporate in to their brooches.   Prerequisite: Introduction to Metals + Jewelry
